Empowering Lives: The Journey of Tamahar Trust, Bengaluru
Introduction
In Bengaluru, Tamahar Trust stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment for children with developmental disabilities and their families. Founded in 2009 by Mrs. Vaishali Pai, an experienced Occupational Therapist, Tamahar Trust has been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for children with special needs through a range of validated developmental interventions and support services.
Programs and Services
At Tamahar, they offer a variety of programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of children with developmental disabilities:
- Early Intervention: Focused on helping young children reach key developmental milestones.
- Nursery and Functional Academics: Providing education in special settings to ensure holistic development.
- Prevocational Training and Sheltered Workshop: Preparing older children for future employment opportunities.
- Auxiliary Therapy and Recreation Programs: Enhancing physical and mental well-being through various therapeutic and recreational activities.
Family Support
Understanding that caregiving is a 24/7 job, Tamahar Trust also offers extensive support services for families. They empower parents to become primary therapists for their children, provide training in therapy and skill development, and encourage personal growth and entrepreneurship. Their family services aim to improve family dynamics and overall well-being.
Impact and Growth
From humble beginnings with just their children, Tamahar Trust has grown significantly over the years. They now support over 300 beneficiaries with 14 programs and a dedicated team of 40 staff members. Their outreach programs extend to rural areas, ensuring that even the most underserved communities receive the support they need
Enabling Inclusion® App and Co-Creation:
Tamahar Trust was interested in using the Enabling Inclusion® App given its family-centered focus and to strengthen the monitoring, documentation, fidelity and quality of their services for their Early Intervention program. Tamahar Trust primarily uses the Carolina Curriculum, which is a validated assessment and intervention program designed for use with young children from birth to five who have mild to severe disabilities.
Amar Seva Sangam work with Tamahar Trust to consolidate the information of the Carolina Curriculum, including the scoring system, goals and a full intervention list and has integrated this tool into the Enabling Inclusion® app.
