2024 - International Conference on Inclusion and Integration of Persons with Disabilities Across the Lifespan

Amar Seva Sangam (ASSA) co-organized the International Conference on Inclusion and Integration of Persons with Disabilities Across the Lifespan, held on February 12-13, 2024 at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). This landmark event brought together professionals from fields including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, optometry, and social work.

This conference served as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and research showcase, reinforcing ASSA’s dedication to promoting disability inclusion across the lifespan.

2023 -International Symposium on Early Intervention and Family Centered Services: Bridging the Gap to Participation and Inclusion for Children with Disabilities

ASSA team had the opportunity to collaborate, organize and plan the International Symposium on Early Intervention and Family Centered Services: Bridging the Gap to Participation and Inclusion for Children with Disabilities with Manipal College of Health Professions in association with Shastri Indo-Canadian institute, University of Toronto and McGill University. The symposium saw enthusiastic endorsement with 158 online and 46 in person participants

Feedback from the symposium revealed that it was a great learning opportunity and the discussions during the plenary panel discussions were very thought-provoking.

2022 - The Enabling Inclusion Child Development Webinar Series

The Enabling Inclusion Webinar Series was organized by Amar Seva Sangam and the University of Toronto (Canada)- International Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation (ICDR). Monthly webinars were conducted jointly by expert speakers from India and Canada from January to June 2022 and were supported by a Shastri Conference & Lecture Series Grant (SCLSG) 2021-2022 from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

The Webinars aimed to share new insights from experts in India and Canada and acquiring knowledge of best aimed to practices, approaches, and interventions for serving their pediatric populations, with a focus on rural communities.

The EI Child development webinars were well attended by members of community NGOs, including rehabilitation clinicians and service providers, educators, researchers, academics, and NGO management across India, as well as community workers providing or interested in providing early intervention and rehabilitation services to children within communities across India. It served as a catalyst in capacity building of NGOs, early intervention & rehabilitation clinicians and community workers across India.

2020 -International Early Intervention Conference

“Early Intervention: Maximizing the Special Need Child’s Potential Towards Inclusion” was an International Conference hosted by Amar Seva Sangam in Chennai, India from Feb.13-15, 2020.

The conference was an opportunity for ASSA and other organizations to disseminate and share knowledge in the field of Early Intervention therapy for children with delayed development. It provided an opportunity to network and collaborate with researchers, program implementer, policy makers and practitioners across the world. Amar Seva Sangam was able to share the findings of our Early Intervention program in an attempt to spread similar models of home based early intervention around the world.

In total, 642 participants attended the international conference from 30 different states in India and from Indonesia, Cambodia, USA, Canada, China, Bangladesh, Australia and UK. This included 83 special invitees from Government of Tamil Nadu and India and international and national funding organization leads.

There were 18 plenary presentations from renowned faculty around the world.

  • Overall, 109 abstracts were received in which 57 were selected for oral presentation and 30 posters were selected for the poster presentation. A total of 10 poster and oral presentations were from ASSA’s team which was an excellent opportunity to disseminate the findings of our research work
  • As part of 2 Pre-conference workshops, training of our program model and dissemination of our research work was provided for 147 health workers including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, special educators, speech therapists, developmental therapists early interventionists, nurses, developmental pediatricians, pediatricians and physicians.
