Training Overview

Amar Seva Sangam (ASSA) conducted a 5-day Rehabilitation Aspect Training in January 2026
for its partner NGO Gandhigram, a Tamil Nadu–based organization working to empower rural
communities through accessible health, education, and social welfare services.

The training, held at the ASSA campus, aimed to strengthen Gandhigram’s field-level capacity to implement an effective Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program in Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu.

Participant Profile

A total of 15 staff members participated in the program, including 4 Special Educators, 2
Physiotherapists, 8 Community Rehabilitation Workers (CRWs), and 1 Project Manager,
ensuring a strong multidisciplinary learning environment.

Child Development & Disability Identification

Participants were oriented on normal child development (up to 6 years), identification of developmental delays, and use of screening tools, with focused inputs on Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disability, Autism, ADHD, SLD, spina bifida, and genetic conditions.

The training emphasized community-level assessments, including baseline data collection, general assessment, and sensory screening for vision and hearing, enabling accurate identification and documentation of children with disabilities.

Discipline-Specific Capacity Building

Customized sessions were delivered for each cadre. Special Educators were trained in educational assessments, PORTAGE, MR concepts, and speech assessment. Physiotherapists received inputs on GMFM, GMFCS, facilitation techniques, and intervention planning. CRWs were trained in positioning, passive movements, lifting and carrying techniques, VAKT method, and early intervention basics.
