Abdul Khaliq was born Tenkasi town in Tamil Nadu on June,2019. When he was just a 45 days old infant, he had developed meningitis. After complete medical treatment, his doctors informed his parents that Abdul may have poor development.

At 6 months of age, his parents noticed that Abdul has not achieved head control and other expected motor development. They took the child to various doctors hoping for “a cure”. Finally, at 1.5 years, a doctor in Tenkasi advised parents to visit Amar Seva Sangam Enabling Inclusion® program.

Abdul Khaliq was diagnosed with Cerebral palsy with low vision. He was enrolled in Amar Seva Sangam’s Enabling Inclusion program in Dec 2020.

Goals identified by his parents via the COPM included:

1. Independent sitting and crawling
2. Indicate toileting needs verbally

Regular physiotherapy and occupational therapy were given via community rehab workers and rehab specialists. We focused on achieving following goals identified by his parents.

With 1.5 years of early intervention, now Abdul Khaliq moves around by crawling and he is able to stand with support. Our staff encouraged his parents to send him to nearby Anganwadi centre and now he attends Anganwadi school regularly.

He recently underwent cataract surgery and follow up vision training was given to him. Now the main intervention goals are improving self-care.

Child development and parental outcomes are captured in the EI® app. As seen in the graphs below, his physiotherapy scores as measured by GMFM and his functional independence score as measure by wee-FIM scores are improving.  Parent scores including Family Empowerement, caregiver-child interaction and program evaluation are increasing and care-giver strain is decreasing.
